Highlights from our multiple myeloma conference
Binaytara Foundation held its Management of Multiple Myeloma: Clinical Updates from ASH20 conference on March 20th, 2021 through Zoom video conferencing. This meeting drew 40 participants, half of who were physicians, and the other half comprised of registered nurses, pharmacists, researchers, residents, and students. We had global participants from Germany, India, and Spain.
“I think BTF conferences stand out for their ease of engagement, high-quality faculty and presentations, and clinically meaningful information,” Dr. Andrew Cowan, an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Washington, medical oncologist at Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, and moderator for this meeting, shares.
Dr. Cowan, who’s also a member of our education committee, took on a leadership role for this conference and invited faculty, reviewed presentations, and facilitated the virtual conference. He was introduced to the foundation a few years ago and became inspired to get involved after hearing Dr. Binay Shah, the co-founder and president of the foundation, speak at Fred Hutch Cancer Institute about global oncology.
The speakers at this event included Dr. Luciano Costa (University of Alabama at Birmingham), Dr. Shakira Grant (University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill), Dr. Shaji Kumar (Mayo Clinic), and Dr. Parameswaran Hari (Medical College of Wisconsin).
The education committee aimed for this meeting to provide a comprehensive review of ongoing clinical trials, discuss novel therapeutic agents, and review treatment paradigms for multiple myeloma.
“I hope that we were able to provide meaningful updates on treatment and diagnosis of multiple myeloma for clinicians and providers,” Dr. Cowan states. “I enjoyed most the post-lecture discussions amongst participants and hearing different opinions from our faculty.”
